The Russian president vehemently rejected the United States’ assertions that Moscow might target a NATO nation in the future, dismissing it as “utter nonsense” and contrary to his country’s interests.
In an interview with Russian state TV, Vladimir Putin refuted recent warnings from US President Joe Biden, who had cautioned that a victorious Putin in Ukraine could embolden an attack on a NATO ally, potentially triggering a global conflict.”It’s absolute nonsense—and I believe President Biden knows that,” Putin asserted on the Rossiya state television channel.
According to Putin, Russia lacks any rationale or interest—be it geopolitical, economic, political, or military—to engage in conflict with NATO countries. He suggested that Biden might be inflating such fears to rationalize what Putin termed as the US leader’s misguided policies in the region.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, US-Russia relations have plummeted to their lowest point in decades. Amid the ongoing 22-month conflict, the US has provided substantial support, amounting to $111 billion in weapons, equipment, and aid to Ukraine, aiding their defense against Russia’s incursion and enabling territorial gains.
