Palestinian Authority is working with Israel on a post-war plan to govern Gaza: PM Shtayyeh

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has revealed that the Palestinian Authority is collaborating with US officials on a post-war plan for governing Gaza.

Shtayyeh expressed a desire for the preferred resolution of the conflict to involve Hamas, the current controller of Gaza, becoming a subordinate partner within the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

This collaboration aims to contribute to the establishment of a new independent state encompassing the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.

Shtayyeh said that if Hamas is willing to reach an agreement and align with the PLO’s political platform, negotiations could take place.

Emphasizing the importance of Palestinian unity, Shtayyeh dismissed Israel’s unrealistic goal of completely defeating Hamas, asserting that the group cannot be eradicated.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a stern warning to Tel Aviv following reports of an alleged Israeli plot to assassinate Hamas members residing outside Palestine, including Turkiye.

Erdogan, speaking during his return from a two-day Qatar trip, responded to a Wall Street Journal article claiming Israel’s plans, stating that any such action against Turkey would incur an irreversible cost.

“If they dare to take such a step against Turkey and Turkish people, they will be doomed to pay a price which they cannot recover from,” Erdogan emphasized, highlighting Turkey’s advancements in global intelligence and security capabilities.

The Turkish President’s remarks were prompted by Ronen Bar, the head of Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security service, who revealed plans to conduct assassinations targeting Hamas members beyond Palestinian territories.

Bar asserted Israel’s intentions to carry out such operations in various locations, including Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Turkey, and Qatar.

Erdogan reiterated that Gaza rightfully belongs to Palestinians, and decisions regarding its governance should be made by the Palestinian people.

He condemned Israel’s proposed creation of a 40-km long and 12-km wide buffer zone in Gaza, urging Israel to accept the establishment of an independent Palestinian State within the 1967 borders and return occupied territories.
